Early this morning saw the release of the Oscar nominations. While there are a lot of great performances and films nominated this year, such as “Licorice Pizza” which featured Christine Ebersole (Class of 1975), we are especially excited for the nomination of past student Jessica Chastain (Class of 1998) for her performance in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” “This morning felt like a dream. THANK YOU to everyone who helped bring [Faye’s] story to life and to The Academy [of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences] for acknowledging my role as Tammy Faye. I am over the moon!” Chastain wrote on her Twitter after hearing she had been nominated. The Actor’s Society is also over the moon and we wish her all the luck.
The film follows the rise, fall, and redemption of the singing televangelist Tammy Faye as she comes to terms with her extravagant husband. Chastain did her own singing.
“The Eyes of Tammy Faye” was also nominated for “Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling.” It can be rented on Amazon or seen on HBO Max with a subscription.
