Matthew Lillard Discusses 'Scream' Horror Franchise

In 1996, almost 25 years ago, “Scream” came to theaters and changed the slasher-horror genre forever. Directed by the bloody mastermind Wes Craven, “Scream” played with many of the horror tropes of the ’70s and ’80s, terrifying its audiences with buckets of blood and gore. The newest film of the series is returning after a 10-year break.

Academy alumnus Matthew Lillard (Class of 1990) has been part of the franchise since the beginning. He was excited to discuss the impact the film had on him and the rest of the world.

“...It holds an emotional place for all of us because we were so young and had an incredible experience shooting the movie. Going into it, none of us had any idea, right?” he stated happily about the longevity of the series. “I want to say, though, I do think that every movie I’ve ever been in, I always go in and leave the movie like, ‘This is gonna be incredible. It’s ‘Wing Commander,’ and I think 25 years from now we are still going to be talking about how incredible ‘Wing Commander’ was.’ It turns out, it doesn’t always happen that way.”

The movie “Scream” is set to release in theaters on January 14th, 2021. Click here to watch the newest trailer.
