Peter Bergman (‘75) is one of daytime television’s most recognized and enduring actors. He first gained national attention for his portrayal of Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children. His work on the series showcased a leading man whose emotional depth was equaled by his charisma. During his 10 years on the show, Bergman brought nuance and heart to the role, making Cliff one of the soap’s most beloved and enduring characters—a performance that paved the way for his next iconic role.

In 1989, Bergman joined The Young and the Restless as Jack Abbott, a complex, ambitious, and often conflicted cosmetics executive. The role became the cornerstone of his career. Over more than three decades, he has become inseparable from the character, helping define The Young and the Restless as a ratings leader and critical success.

Bergman’s performance as Jack Abbott has earned him a record 25 Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and a record 25 nominations throughout his career. Few performers in daytime have sustained such an enduring presence. Bergman has remained a central figure in the show’s narrative and is often cited as one of the reasons for its long-running success.

Beyond his soap work, Bergman has appeared as himself and as versions of his “Y&R” character in crossover episodes and specials, including appearances on The Nanny, The King of Queens, and The Bold and the Beautiful. These moments reflect his cultural reach beyond the daytime audience.

Within the industry, Bergman is known for his professionalism, generosity toward scene partners, and deep commitment to the craft of acting. His performances have consistently been praised for balancing sophistication, humor, and vulnerability — qualities that have defined Jack Abbott and set a standard in daytime drama.

Over 35 years after his debut on The Young and the Restless and with nearly 4,000 episode credits, Bergman remains one of the show’s most essential and acclaimed figures — and one of television’s most enduring leading men.
