The American Academy of Dramatic Arts alumni continue to shape the world of film and television. Among them are three actors who have carved out their place in the ever-expanding galaxy far, far away: Carrie-Anne Moss, Nelson Lee, and Brendan Wayne.

Carrie-Anne Moss (‘88) – The Acolyte

Academy grad Carrie-Anne Moss rose to fame as Trinity in The Matrix franchise, and now brings her gravitas and stature to Jedi Master Indara in Star Wars: The Acolyte. The show is set 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, during the waning days of the High Republic. Moss’s role has been described as “Trinity with a lightsaber,” with her fight choreography marrying the Force to martial arts. The series’ creator, Leslye Headland, specifically cast Moss for her ability to evoke a sense of controlled power and presence.

Nelson Lee (‘01) – Ahsoka

Nelson Lee, a 2001 grad, appeared in Ahsoka as Senator Hamato Xiono, a character previously introduced in the animated series Star Wars: Resistance and reimagined in live action for Ahsoka. Lee’s portrayal brought a grounded intensity to a skeptical politician, a character whose resistance to military preparedness underscores key conflict in the New Republic.

In 2024, Lee turned in one of the year’s most captivating performances in Alex Garland’s Civil War. The actor discusses this, and much more, in a one-on-one interview with The Academy Pages.

Brendan Wayne (‘98) – The Mandalorian

Brendan Wayne, grandson of Western legend John Wayne and a ___ Academy graduate, has played a vital role in one of Star Wars’ most popular series. He serves as the primary body double for Din Djarin, the titular character in The Mandalorian played by Pedro Pascal. Wayne helped shape the character through his stoic, martial physicalization of the part. His performance–done entirely behind a helmet–is a testament to physical acting, as he helped to bring to life one of TV’s most recognizable heroes.

From lightsaber duels to political intrigue and snagging bounties in the Outer Rim, these Academy alumni showcase the versatility and influence of The Academy’s training. As the saga expands, so too does the impact of its Academy-trained stars.
